Patricia Ayelef

Patricia was born in Menetue, surrounded by panoramic views of the Villarrica and Quetrupillán volcanoes, Coihue trees, and lush greenery.She is one of four daughters.One day, her mother gathered them and told them they needed to learn to spin, dye, and weave wool, as there would come a time when they would have to create clothes and home goods for their families and for the winter.Weaving has never been Patricia’s main source of income, but rather a necessity.When she was younger, her family would shear sheep or trade vegetables with a neighbor for wool.They would then wash, spin, weave, and knit everything they needed.In 2023, Patricia received indigenous grants, which allowed her to expand her studio space to welcome more visitors and students, sharing her work and practice with a wider audience.She was also one of 500 Chilean weavers who contributed to creating the longest textile in the world.Patricia is excited to meet you and share the weaving experience.
