Annick De Splenter

In March 2020, Annick De Splenter, city brewer and manager of Ghent's renowned Gruut Beer, traveled to Senegal to fine-tune export sales. Due to the COVID pandemic, she was stuck in Toubacouta for two months: a village nestled in the stunning Sine Saloum Delta in the Fatick region. She immediately saw the potential to build several fantastic lodges on a completely dilapidated complex with stunning views of the mangroves and the Saloum River. To realize this challenging project, Annick enlisted the help of the friendly local community and a group of friends from Ghent. The Toubacouta Lodges were born!
